Caroline Jane Knight

2017

One

Background

Caroline Jane Knight is Jane Austen's fifth great niece and the last descendant of the Austen family to have been raised in the family's ancestral home in Chawton, where Jane Austen herself lived and wrote many of her most celebrated novels. Following the family's departure from the estate, bringing to a close more than 400 years of Austen family history, Caroline has dedicated herself to preserving Jane Austen's legacy through her charity, The Jane Austen Literacy Foundation.

To support this work, I was engaged to produce a suite of contemporary professional portraits that would elevate Caroline's personal brand and be used across the Foundation's marketing, media and public speaking activities.

Two

Approach

To create a look that felt both timeless and contemporary, I developed a creative direction centred around a soft, feminine aesthetic, using pink tones throughout the backdrop and wardrobe styling to reflect warmth, elegance and approachability while subtly referencing the romanticism synonymous with Jane Austen.

I collaborated with renowned photographer Mark Lobo to capture a collection of refined portrait imagery, overseeing the creative direction, styling and production to ensure the final photography authentically represented Caroline and provided a versatile library of assets for ongoing promotional use by The Jane Austen Literacy Foundation.
