Hi Candle!

Background

Hi Candle! was borne from newfound candle-making skills during COVID lockdowns in 2020. The idea was to produce a range of scented candles that were accessible from price-point, featured uncommon and surprising scents, and were gender-neutral. Launching online in January 2021, the objective was to first establish an e-commerce presence, and then acquire wholesale orders with new seasonal candles launching annually.

Approach

Existing creative skills and experience was applied to realise the branding and identity of Hi Candle! The creative approach was always focused upon having the candles be gender-neutral and playful, and this was reflected across all touch-points of the brand: a quirky and humanistic typeface was used as the brand font; a hand-drawn image of a smiling young boy reminiscent of 40’s and 50’s children’s book illustrations was used as the brand mascot; photographer Mark Lobo continues to be booked to capture colourful and striking visuals; and a web design that places UX at the forefront.

Since it’s launch, the candles are now found in many stories across Victoria, including Pinky’s, Herbert’s Corner Store, Spring Hill Nursery and Cliffy’s Emporium.
